For us at the Bears Inn, food is not just part of our business, it's our lifelong passion. Over the years we have worked hard (ok. it's a labor of love) to come up with recipes that are unique, delicious, and reflect many of our guests' healthy lifestyle values. We take pains to balance our culinary offerings to cater to our guests' desire for a special, vacation-style breakfast that feels like a "treat", with their desire to eat healthy foods that enable them to feel energetic and fully ready to enjoy their day. We do this by serving hearty, wholesome food based on fresh, high-quality ingredients. We always ask our guests in advance about any dietary restrictions or preferences they may have. This enables us to offer tasty alternative meals and snacks that cater to those with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, low fat, low carb, or low sugar dietary requirements.

Our candlelight breakfasts all start with a fresh fruit course. We choose the best fruit of the season, and create dishes such as a fresh berry and banana parfait with honey Greek yogurt and homemade granola, or poached pears with raspberry-balsamic sauce. The fruit course is followed by a hot main dish, often incorporating eggs, vegetables, grains, breakfast meats, and dairy to make a tasty, satisfying meal. An example of our breakfast menu would be our vegetable and potato rostis topped with poached eggs and tomato corn basil salsa and served with sausage and artisan toast. In addition to breakfast, we always have a selection of teas, hot chocolates, ciders and coffee and homemade cookies and snacks available for our guests.

Featured recipe: Gluten-Free Peanut Butter Cookies

Rich and chewy, these are our favorite peanut butter cookies ever!

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups crunchy peanut butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds

Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients together. Roll dough into small balls and place on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet. Using a fork, press down on the top of each cookie. Sprinkle a bit of sugar over each cookie, if desired, and bake for 10 minutes.
