Room At The Inn The Bunkhouse
Bunkhouse

Some of my favorite collectibles live in the Bunkhouse.  Classic western writer, Louis L'Amour wrote about 124 books. 91 of them are proudly displayed in the room.

There's also a very large framed print by contemporary western artist, James Bama,
facing the bed.  Although titled "The Teamster", we call him Jake.  Hanging over the footboard is an old tooled leather saddlebag and on the bedpost you'll find a well-used Charlie 1 Horse straw hat.  Above the bed is an original watercolor of cowboy boots by local artist, Julie Wynn

Whether you're a cowboy/girl at heart or a city dweller wanting to enjoy western charm, consider getting away to Evergreen and spending a couple of nights in the Bunkhouse.

What Our Corporate Guests Are Saying ~

"Our CPA firm has made it a tradition to spend our after-tax-season "recovery weekend" at the Bears Inn. During this weekend we do an in-depth review of the results of our recent busy season and conduct casual, brain storming sessions on how to improve our performance and our client service.

Vicki Bock and her staff at the Bears Inn ensure that our weekend is restful, peaceful and tranquil. We hold our informal meetings on one of the many outdoor decks or around the fireplace in the cozy living room. Our days start with an incredible breakfast and end in a beautiful, comfortable room where rest comes easily.

Thank you, Vicki, for another productive and rejuvenating experience at your inn. We consider you and Bears Inn an invaluable resource to the overall well being of our firm."

A Beary Good Breakfast:
Poached Pears with Raspberry Sauce
dining room
This fruit course is done entirely in the microwave -- I always feel like I'm cheating when using the nuke box for preparing breakfast!

1 Bosc Pear Per Serving

Sauce:
2 c. frozen unsweetened raspberries
1 T. balsamic vinegar
2 t. honey (optional-- If pears are ripe, they have enough natural sugar without it.)
Several dashes freshly ground black pepper

Microwave raspberries in a covered container until thoroughly heated. Press berries through a fine sieve over a small bowl, reserving liquid & discarding solids. Press firmly to take out all the pulp--it makes a thicker sauce. Add vinegar, honey if you choose, & pepper. Refrigerate until ready to use
. We make a double batch & store in freezer until needed again.

Before serving peel the desired number of Bosc pears. Rub peeled pears with lemon juice--bottled juice works well. Slice a flat slice on the bottom so the pears will stand tall & proud. Place the pears in some kind of container tall enough to cover them without mashing them. Drizzle with raspberry sauce.  Microwave on high for four minutes to start, basting the pears while uncovering them to check their progress. Continue cooking until pears are soft & tender. Leave covered to hold the heat.

We serve them on a pretty plate in a puddle of our YY sauce. We mix equal parts of fat free vanilla yogurt & fat free Cool Whip. I couldn't think of a name for it, so we call it YY, which stands for yummy yogurt. Paula Deen would never go for it! I like to put a little something around the pear in the sauce puddle to add color--colorful fresh or dried berries work well.

I've only used Bosc pears so let me know if another variety works for you ~ booknow@bearsinn.com.

Scottie's Shinnanagins
scottie Dog
If you have stayed at the Bears Inn, you have probably had the pleasure of meeting the famous Mr. Scottie McDoogle. He never misses a chance to provide a bit of comic relief to both the guests and staff.

Just last week, Scottie was tied to hi
s leash, enjoying a deep spring nap while Vicki was working from her "summer office", on the Safari Room deck. She took a short break to look out and enjoy the wonderful view when she spotted a fox hanging out right in front of the inn!

Of course, you would assume Scottie would notice right away, but it took him a few minutes to notice, sniff, growl and finally jump up and take action! Scottie proceeded to bolt as fast as his little terrier legs would take him which happened to be only all the way to the end of his leash - where he ended up with one big face plant in the dirt! Needless to say, the fox went about his usual business while Scottie sat in the dirt and Vicki had one big laugh that would last for days!
